Waama is a small village located in the heart of the Tanzanian inland (Mbulu District). The population of this apparently idyllic community consists of shepherds and peasants from different ethnic groups.

But as is the case for many of these remote villages, appearances can be deceptive: the unpaved road connecting the village with the closest little city and with the regional clinic (Katesh, 25 miles) can only be used by vehicles with four-wheel drive. It changes into a muddy river as soon as it starts to rain.

The recently founded dispensary is rapidly becoming too small and is confronted with a cruel shortage of resources and of trained nursing staff.
Over 400 pupils visit the local primary school, which doesn’t dispose of running water or sanitary installations. Child mortality is very high.
