A few years ago six sisters (Sisters of Charity of St. Charles Borromes) decided to establish themselves in Waama. They run the dispensary and help the villagers any way they can.
The (mostly Tanzanian) sisters had a well drilled in order to provide the village with drinkable water. Their four wheel drive (the only vehicle in the region) serves as an ambulance.
Their congregation is paying for a house for the doctor who is now living in a little room in the dispensary. Among lots of other things, the sisters are creating jobs for the villagers and help with the cultivation of vegetables and fruit.
